The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed that heavy rainfall this year has caused damages amounting to USD 71,163 across 10 islands, as of the end of November.
A total of 110 homes were reported damaged, with Kurendhoo in Lhaviyani Atoll bearing the brunt of the impact. The island alone accounted for 97 affected households, making it the worst-hit area.
The NDMA has completed a detailed assessment of the damages and forwarded the findings to relevant authorities for assistance. This process falls under the framework of the Rules on Providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Damage Assistance, which aims to support those impacted by natural disasters.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure aid reaches the affected communities promptly. The NDMA emphasized its commitment to addressing the needs of those who have suffered losses due to severe weather conditions.
