Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal recently held discussions with Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar on tourism development prospects in Laamu Atoll’s Baresdhoo and Gaadhoo islands. The meeting took place during the High Commissioner’s visit to the area, where both officials explored the islands’ potential as emerging tourist destinations.
In a social media post, Minister Faisal highlighted that the discussions focused on sustainable tourism development that could drive economic growth while preserving the islands’ unique natural environment and cultural heritage.
The High Commissioner’s tour of Laamu Atoll aligns with efforts by both countries to deepen trade and economic ties. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent state visit to India culminated in five agreements to strengthen cooperation, including a currency swap deal and business forums held in cities like Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
To promote tourism growth in underserved areas, the Maldivian government is actively seeking foreign investment. Minister Faisal announced that investor forums are scheduled in Singapore, Thailand, and Dubai, aimed at attracting developers to contribute to the tourism sector’s expansion beyond the capital region.
